- Check the output flow of the Flow
- Know which switch ports the Flows are connected to and if they are Giga or Fast Ethernet
- Know what brand and model of switches
- Request the configuration file for the trunk switch
- It is important to know if IGMP is being used and if the querier is activated
- If you work with VLANs (especially if it is layer 3) and you need to assign an IP/netmask for the VLAN dedicated to the Flows, the following may be useful: ip address 172.30.0.1 255.255.0.0
- If there is a FLAPPING or MAC FLAPPING alarm on the switch, you must change the transmission to only one TV1 port.
- Spanning tree (STP) this option prevents loops and the network from being saturated by these loops. It is recommended that this option be enabled.
- The VLC and Wireshark programs help a lot to see if there is flooding. One way to see if you are only receiving the service you request is or not:
- Tune a service with VLC
- Start the PC's task manager
- Network Functions tab
- View network usage of the adapter on which the service is being received
- Multiply the network usage percentage by the link speed
- Also:
- Connect to a switch output on the same vlan as IPTV and request a service using VLC.
In wireshark you should only receive this requested channel. Check that you are not receiving any other services and verify the operation of IGMP by filtering these packets.
- Connect to a switch output on the same vlan as IPTV and request a service using VLC.
